Dhaba by Claridges

The Claridges Hotel, New Delhi

Evoking the nostalgia of rural Indian dining, this intimate dhaba-style restaurant celebrates the essence of traditional Indian hospitality through texture, colour, and craft. The design captures the humble charm of roadside eateries, bringing it into an urban context while evoking a genuine warmth. Vintage hurricane lanterns dangle from chains, casting a soft, uneven glow that fills the room with known familiarity.

Textured white walls hold painted borders in vibrant orange and red, framing doors and windows like festival adornments. Their hand-painted imperfections lend the space its unfiltered soul. Overhead, bamboo matting runs in parallel strips, a rhythmic gesture inspired by vernacular construction. Solid wood tables surrounded by woven rope chairs anchor the setting while balancing comfort with a rustic authenticity.

The space is like a composition of frames, like India’s Vageeswari cameras. Glimpses of a vintage painted truck are visible through a rear opening strengthening the highway dhaba connection while open shelves display utensils and bottles like collectibles maintaining the raw aura. Even the flooring with its geometric patterns is reminiscent of courtyard paving.
