Bottoms up Gastro Pub

Punjabi Bagh, New Delhi

This industrial gastropub employs raw materiality and exposed structural elements to create a moody dining environment inspired by the aesthetic of craft breweries. The design celebrates unfinished surfaces and functional fixtures, layering them in moments of warmth through strategic lighting and curated details.

The most captive feature is the overhead treatment: massive angled wooden beams painted in cream form a geometric canopy that contrasts with the rather dark painted ceiling and exposed ductwork. These dramatic diagonal members create visual dynamism while concealing functional systems. Beneath this, lighting in casual zigzag patterns provides an ambient glow, their bulbs adding a vintage industrial character. The materiality emphasizes authenticity and patina: exposed brick walls hold sculptural wire artwork depicting hookahs and decorative motifs that reference Middle Eastern heritage through contemporary line drawings. Furniture chosen maintains dark tones and compact profiles: deep brown leather button-tufted banquettes provide luxurious seating along walls, while simple metal-framed cafe chairs in black maintain casual accessibility. Some tables feature tessellated purple tops that inject unexpected colour adding pop against the prevalent palette. The monumental rustic bar showcases backlit shelving behind a matte black counter.

Wall-mounted vintage clocks and wire cage pendant lights add a collectible character without cluttering the deliberately spare aesthetic, prioritizing material honesty over any visual excess.
