Mamagotto Restaurant

Mizoram, India

Bringing together contemporary pop culture and nostalgic references through layered visual storytelling, this exuberant restaurant in Mizoram uses colour and patterns to transport diners to the vibrant landscape. The design creates a dining experience that celebrates Asian street life, retro aesthetics and modern energy.

A striking combination of painted floral murals with exposed timber beams frame the ceiling in decorative panels. Illuminated box signs in red, pink and yellow, bearing Chinese characters, suspended below creating a lit up grid washing the space in an amber glow. Photo-realistic murals depicting vintage street scenes and cultural iconography dominate the walls. The bar tucked in one corner, displays cans and bottles arranged in gradients behaving much like functional art. Custom neon signage depicting widely known characters adds to the sense of whimsy and youth appeal. The furniture favours curves and plush comfort while the flooring features large scale geometric patterns in black and white anchoring the visual complexity above.
