Mamagotto Restaurant

Siliguri, India

Rich in its layers and palette, this Asian restaurant embraces a maximalist design approach through a mix of vintage botanical wallcoverings, contemporary art interventions and modern furnishings. Visually abundant in its appeal, the design maintains a resourceful spatial organization across the rather narrow footprint.

Most distinctive of all gestures, is the installation of pendant lights suspended from the ceiling with hand-painted floral motifs. This curated composition references to traditional Asian lantern festivals while adding to the eclecticism.

Hand-painted murals depicting delicate branches, blossoms and birds in soft pastels envelope the ceiling and upper walls. These botanical narratives provide a backdrop against the bold contemporary portraits emerging from the opposite walls with stylized painted figures.

Furniture favours curves and their comfort through cane-backed dining chairs with upholstery in yellow, green and blue and marble topped table. The flooring is a geometric tessellated pattern in teal and cream, grounding all the visual complexity resting on it. Wheels are mounted as wall art adding a whimsical collectible moment throughout.
